A Short History of ICR

Henry M. Morris

Dr. Henry M. Morris first established the Institute for Creation Research in 1970 as the research division of Christian Heritage College (now San Diego Christian College), focused on research, communication, and education in those fields of science particularly relevant to the study of origins. ICR became autonomous in 1981.

ICR Graduate School degree programs received formal approval from the State of California in 1981 and taught its first courses the summer of the same year. The graduate school offers the Master of Science degree in Science Education with minors in general science, astro/geophysics, biology, and geology. In June 2006, ICR's board of directors formally approved the establishment of the Henry M. Morris Center for Christian Leadership in Dallas, Texas. The goal of this new strategic initiative has been to expand the impact of ICR's various ministries through online distance education, leadership conferences and seminars, and the further development of ICR's web presence.

Dr. Henry M. Morris III, eldest son of the founder, was appointed as Chief Executive Officer by the board of directors in January 2007, joining his brother, Dr. John Morris, at the helm of the organization and graduate school.

ICRGS began formally offering its online Master of Science degrees from the California campus in order to expand the impact of this popular course of study that provides students a rigorous exposure to the hard sciences with the added benefit of an unwavering creation perspective.

In June 2007, ICR's headquarters officially relocated to Dallas. The 5-acre campus was acquired in Dallas with buildings suited for Adminstration, Academics and Research, and future expansion. In December 2007, the Academic and Research building was completed with faculty offices, classrooms, laboratories, warehouse and shipping space, and library facilities.

During 2008, ICR will continue to move the remainder of personnel, equipment, and operations to the new Dallas headquarters, while leaving the Museum of Creation and Earth History in San Diego for the indefinite future.

It's an exciting time for the work of ICR!
